Whats Included In The Silversneakers Program
SilverSneakers is much more than just a gym membership, although it does include all the perks of a basic membership at participating fitness and community centers. You can work out on weight machines, join a group fitness class, swim a few laps, and even relax in the sauna or hot tub .
Youre also not locked into one particular fitness center. Your membership works at 17,000 participating locations across the United States, any of which you can visit. If you prefer exercising outdoors, try one of the SilverSneakers FLEX classes offered at a local park. Use the SilverSneakers GO app to find class schedules and locations, and track your progress toward fitness goals.
When going to the gym isnt an option, you can stream live classes and workshops to your TV or use the library of on-demand videos to exercise on your own schedule.
If youre eligible for SilverSneakers, these benefits are free at all participating locations. Youll only pay out-of-pocket for things like a smoothie from the health bar or a massage after your workout if you desire those extras.

Silversneakers Eligibility And Coverage Areas
Any Medicare-eligible individual age 65 years or older is eligible for SilverSneakers. However, to actually get this coverage, you have to be officially enrolled in Medicare Advantage or a Medicare Supplement plan that offers membership to the program.

Medicare Supplement plans are designed to help pay out-of-pocket costs with Part A and Part B . If something isnt covered by Original Medicare, it usually isnt covered by a Medicare Supplement plan. Medicare rules prohibit Medigap plans from offering extra benefits, but gym memberships such as SilverSneakers are the rare exception to the rule.
In some states, the major Medicare Supplement insurers such as Humana, BlueCross Blue Shield, AARP include SilverSneakers membership with some Medigap plans. Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, and Montana has a product called Plan G Plus, which includes SilverSneakers® benefits along with other perks like $0 dental, vision, and hearing exams.
Any innovative benefits offered with Medigap plans must be approved by the state, so not all states have access to Plan G Plus.

How Do You Enroll In Silversneakers
If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that includes SilverSneakers as a benefit, you simply then have to register with SilverSneakers on the SilverSneakers website to receive your ID card and membership number that will grant you access to SilverSneakers locations and programs.
Medicare Advantage, or Medicare Part C, is an alternative way to receive Original Medicare benefits while also receiving coverage for things not found in Original Medicare. How Does It Work
All you need to get started is your SilverSneakers member ID number.
Find your closest SilverSneakers location and take your ID number to the front desk. Then start working out! You can use any participating SilverSneakers location nationwide, so when you travel you can still get your workouts in.
This benefit does not include personal training sessions.
Where Does Anthem Sell Medicare Advantage Plans With Silversneakers
Anthem and its subsidiary Medicare plan providers offer plans in a number of different states.
If you live an area where Anthem or one of the Anthem family brands provide Medicare plans, you may be able to enroll in an Anthem Medicare Advantage plan that includes a SilverSneakers membership. If Anthem does not sell Medicare Advantage plans where you live or the available plan does not include SilverSneakers, you may be able to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan offered by a different carrier that includes SilverSneakers.
Remember, you may only enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that is sold in the area in which you live. You must also be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B to enroll in Medicare Advantage.
Once enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan with SilverSneakers, you must then register on the SilverSneakers website to receive an ID card and membership number.
