Posted: 01-15-2020 03:31 PM. I had Silver Sneakers through United Health Care and lost it in January, 2019. I am also a 68 year old fitness trainer and TEACH SS FLEX at several locations. A number of individuals lost SS under the UHC. I dropped UHC as my supplemental plan and sbscribed with Medical Mutual in Ohio.

While it wont have the exact same benefits, according to Renew Active, they will allow members to visit a participating fitness location to receive standard access at no additional cost.
Your access will include a variety of exercise equipment, classes and group activities.
You choose the programs and location that are right for you.
Amenities may vary by location. You also receive access to BrainHQ, which features fun, online brain exercises and activities designed to keep your mind active.
You will be able to access Renew Active beginning on the effective date of your eligible Medicare Advantage health plan.
What Kinds Of Fitness Classes Does Silversneakers Offer
SilverSneakers has a lot of classes available for every physical activity level. Whether its a stability class to improve balance and prevent falls, a water exercise class for low-impact aerobic workouts, a yoga class to increase flexibility, or an athletic, upper-body conditioning class to build strength, SilverSneakers offers quite a few options.

After learning about Silver Sneakers, you are probably impressed with the program. You can imagine yourself in a gym getting fit or adhering to a nutritional plan, and feeling 30 again. But theres more to the story
As of October 2019, United Healthcare announced that it will no longer offer SilverSneakers as a benefit. Anyone who was not enrolled in United Healthcares plans by January 2021 will not be able to access SilverSneakers as a benefit.
This drop in support is not a falling-out between the companies. NPR even did a story on the breakup.
But you still might be shocked, considering the benefits and robustness of Silver Sneakers. United Healthcare found that despite offering SilverSneakers, 90% of those who have the benefit never set foot in a SilverSneakers gym. Many Medicare recipients may have not been aware of the benefit, thus not using it. Those who reap the benefits of this program will, however, be supported.
United Healthcare is not alone in ending their relationship with Silver Sneakers.
The Tennessee YMCA and BlueCross BlueShield have ended their relationship with Silver Sneakers in all their locations.
Tivity Health announced that if you are already enrolled in United Healthcares plans and receive SilverSneakers as a benefit, then it will remain available to you through December 31, 2022.
