SilverSneakers is perhaps the most widely used fitness program included in many Medicare insurance plans, but its not the only one.
Silver& Fit is a program like SilverSneakers that is included in Medicare plans by some carriers. While the programs are sure to have their subtle differences, they are very similar in what they offer.
No Silver Sneakers In Some States
Im curious why United Health Care / AARP Medigap would offer Silver Sneakers in some states but not in others? Apparently the deal is available in California, Oregon and Nevada, but not my home state of Washington.
I had Silver Sneakers through United Health Care and lost it in January, 2019. I am also a 68 year old fitness trainer and TEACH SS FLEX at several locations. A number of individuals lost SS under the UHC.
I dropped UHC as my supplemental plan and sbscribed with Medical Mutual in Ohio. I received a BETTER plan at a LOWER premium and it INCLUDED SS! I recommend all UHC subscribers to check with a broker to review options.
Of course you want to be sure that your are receiving the same coverage at a price that is affordable for your budget. But I can assure you that there are plans available that offer SS that AND coverage equal to or greater than UHCs. My humble opinion, UHC is more concerned about their bottom line then our health.
And AARP should be lobbying Medicare for the provision of a Silver Sneakers type plan that is UNIVERSALLY available to all Medicare recipients.
Its much better for our health and much less expensive to employ preventitive measures for our health and well being than to wait until people are sick.
And let AARP know that we do not need to support their organization financially if they are truly not putting US before their own bottom line.

Does Medicaid Cover Gym Memberships
Posted: Nov 24, 2021 · Does Medicare Cover Gym Membership? For older adults who have Medicare instead of or in addition to Medicaid, gym membership may be available through that plan. Although Original Medicare doesnt cover fitness center membership, some Medicare Advantage plans may offer gym membership as part of their plan benefits.
Medicare Plan N Vs Plan G
When compared to Medicare supplement Plan N, Plan G provides more comprehensive coverage. Both policies will not cover the Part B deductible however, Plan N will not pay for expenses related to the Medicare Part B excess charges. Excess charges can occur when there is a difference between what is billed to Medicare for your treatment and what is actually paid by Medicare. This difference would be paid for you out of pocket if you had Plan N, for example.
However, since Plan N has less coverage, the monthly premium for the policy will be less than Plan G. For 2020, Plan N will cost between $149 and $289 per month.

Boardman Gym Goer Wants Answers After Insurance Plan Drops Silver Sneakers
The Medicare open enrollment period officially begins Monday, October 15th. But before that comes many insurance providers have been tweaking the plans that they offer through the open marketplace.
When one Boardman woman received the notice about a change in her supplemental plan, she was shocked.
Meg Glines is an avid gym goer and says that her physical well-being is very important to her. Which is why she puts such a high value on the Silver Sneakers program.
Silver Sneakers is considered a perk offered by some insurance providers. The program provides those who are 65 and older with free gym memberships or access to fitness classes.
However, United Healthcare notified Glines that they will no longer offer Silver Sneakers on the AARP Supplemental Plan.
My Silver Sneakers program is my wellness program for myself and my husband. We both attend the gym, and we utilize the Silver Sneakers classes, said Glines.
Glines uses her Silver Sneakers membership to take several classes at Creekside Fitness in Boardman, including aerobics, yoga, and senior drumming.
Glines said its important to her. It helps us maintain our health, plus adds socialization to our lives. Especially in the morning. Thats when I come to the classes, she said.
Plus, Glines said she sees it as a positive for their overall wellness.
In addition, Andrea Leonard, a personal trainer at Creekside, says there are benefits that are important to older gym goers.
